About the project
Self regulation
SELF (train the mind, grow the player) is an Erasmus+ funded initiative building practical self-regulation tools for youth sport coaches across Europe.
Our story
Why self-regulation?
Direct instruction from trainers is effective, but athletes also need to become independent, resilient, and motivated learners.
That means learning to set their own goals, plan how to achieve them, monitor and evaluate progress, make mistakes, and reflect.
Research shows youth athletes who use self-regulated learning (SRL) learn faster, enjoy sport more, and build stronger self-confidence.
The SELF Toolkit helps trainers teach SRL skills in a playful, sports-specific way. Instead of writing reflections, athletes use engaging on-court tools — cones, water bottles, agility ladders — to become self-regulated learners.
- Ready-made tools for goal setting, planning, monitoring, evaluation, and reflection
- Starter tools (ages 8–12) and advanced tools (ages 13–16)
- Uses materials already at the club — no special equipment needed
