In pairs, athletes summarize their drill performance in one sentence, reduce it to a keyword, then set an improvement goal.

Lesson for the Future

Materials Needed

  • A swing cloth (parachute) on the ground, next to the field.
  • Put 4 small papers on 4 colors of the cloth. For example:
    • Yellow: technical execution
    • Violet: better focus
    • Blue: speed
    • Red: communication
  • A reflection buddy for each athlete (a small cone with the name or number of the athlete on it, or any toy or game figure).

Instructions

  1. Explain the drill, the goal, and the point of focus. Start the drill.
  2. After the drill, ask the players to make pairs and sum up their answer to this sentence: "I reached the goal of the drill because I..." Let them focus on a positive statement.
  3. After one minute, ask them to reduce the sentence into ONE KEYWORD.
  4. Ask the players to think what they could do even better next time:
    • Yellow: technical execution
    • Violet: better focus
    • Blue: speed
    • Red: communication
  5. Ask them to place their reflection buddy on the color of choice on the swing cloth.

Tip

You can ask your players to always carry a small "buddy" with them (e.g. clip a carabiner to their bags) so they always have it ready.
